+ rebuilding:
What’s the role of art in a time of dire need?  Global arts consultant Brent Reidy will share the work of his company, AEA Consulting, to chart a course for rebuilding culture in post-Katrina New Orleans, and discuss the value of culture for a city in crisis.

+ shooting: Filmmaker and founder of PUC Films Clara Aranovich will discuss making films in New Orleans, including shooting on location for her short film THE ARGUMENT, and the challenges of directing Frenchmen and babies.

+ THE ARGUMENT: In a private pre-screening before its international premiere, THE ARGUMENT follows a Frenchman stuck in New Orleans.  After a colossal fight, the mother of his child has taken his wallet and left him with the wailing baby.  He must get diapers for his son, but he does not speak English.

Speakers for Saloon #2: Culture in the Crescent City:

Brent Reidy is a consultant
at AEA Consulting, where his clients include Pew Charitable Trusts, Roundabout Theatre Company, and the National Gallery of Australia. Brent was formerly Executive Director of Music For Tomorrow, a volunteer-run non-profit organization supporting New Orleans jazz through performances. Brent received his A.B. in music from Dartmouth College and is in progress towards a Ph.D. in musicology from Indiana University.

Clara Aranovich is a filmmaker and the founder of PUC Films. Her short film THE ARGUMENT, starring Melvil Poupaud, will have its international premiere in November 2011.  Clara recently completed the fourth season of MAD MEN as a researcher for the show’s writers.  She holds an M.F.A. from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and an A.B. from Dartmouth College, where she studied Literature/Creative Writing and Theater.  For more on Clara, visit her website.

Nathan Pinsley is the co-founder of Hello Electric, an online organization that accelerates mainstream adoption of electric cars.  He works on Hello Electric and other environmental campaigns as a strategist at Purpose, where he is a ninja mastermind of creating social campaigns for good.  Previously, Nathan was a consultant in the Sustainability and Resource Productivity Practice at McKinsey & Company.  He holds degrees in Economics and Psychology from Dartmouth College. 

Alex Halperin is a journalist who’s reported for publications including The American Prospect, the Financial Times, BusinessWeek, n+1, and Guernica Magazine, where he is an editor.  His story on a man rebuilding his life after prison was originally published by the Washington Post.  He lives — where else? — in Brooklyn.
